Parc de la Ciutadella

Parc de la Ciutadella is a park in Ciutat Vella, Barcelona, Catlonia, Spain. Established in the 19th century, this was the only green area in the city for many decades. With its 280,000 m2 the park is optimal for sports like boating in the lake, cycling or jogging, visisting the zoo and also for just hanging-around.

The zoo with about 7,000 animals is popular with locals and tourists as well. Near the zoo's entrance you can find a gigantic stone mammoth.  A great place for fun photos.

When following the parks paths you can discover the lush and various vegetation.

The park also homes the Catalonian Parliament.

My absolute favourite in the park is the Cascada. It was erected by Josep Fontsére and to a small extent by Gaudi, at that time an unknown student of architecture.
Two enormous pincers of gigantic crabs serve as stairs to reach a small podium in the centre of the monument, in the front of which a sculpture of Venus was placed.
